The bits people always ask
Do I need to download anything?
Your visitors never install anything. They scan your QR code and it opens in their phone's browser, with no app and no account. You and your household get the Dorbel app (iOS and Android) so you're always reachable, with real-time alerts and your full chat history in one place.
Does it work if I'm not home?
Yes. When someone rings, the Dorbel app notifies you wherever you are. Answer with a message, voice or video, or let them leave a note.
Couldn't someone just scan a photo of my code?
No. Dorbel checks the visitor is physically at your door using their location, within about 10 metres. A screenshot from across town simply won't connect.
Where is my video stored?
Nowhere. Video and audio are encrypted end to end between the visitor's phone and yours. They usually travel directly; if a network blocks that, the encrypted stream passes through a relay that can't decrypt it. Nothing is recorded, so there's nothing on our end to store, breach or hand over.
What happens when I move?
The code stays with the property. Print a fresh one for your new place in a couple of minutes. Moving into a home that already has a Dorbel? Claim it in about 30 seconds.
Is my home address private?
Yes. For a house we keep only its map coordinates and a one-way fingerprint of the address, never the street address itself. In an apartment building we keep the building's address, which every resident shares, plus your unit number. Visitors only ever see the label you choose, like "Unit 12".
